My summer goal, besides reading my brains out, was for Wes and me to build and install a little free library (LFL) at the cabin. It turned out my dad did all the hard work, Dwayne was necessary to put the thing together, I did the design and decor, and Wes…did nothing. But I was very happy to install it and make it official– Charter #130680 can be found on the LFL map.

Hi Denise:
This email reminded me of an omission the plans had for this project. My tasks were to procure lumber and cut out the floor, walls, roof and made the door of the library. I thought that was all there was to the project. I made the components, except for the door, and gave them to you. Then I proceeded to make door which was a little more challenging because of the grove for the plastic. I followed the dimensions given in the plan for the door but didn’t cut the plastic waiting for the assembled library. I had only so much plastic and did not enough for an error. When you brought the assembled library I found the door was too small. I reviewed the plans and found that the casing around the front was not mentioned; if one looked closely the casing was barely visible. I decided to make the door larger to cover the front. The only thing I had to do was make two sides of the door larger. I was not concerned about that because I had plenty of wood for the door frame. I did not have any additional plastic.
The end result was that the library had a slightly larger opening and door. I am not sure if this will affect the weather integrity of the library. I did save you from having to finish the casing and could erect the library.
